Herbert Beckhard and Frank Richlan Associates with Michael Szerbaty
This light manufacturing complex serves the electronics and computer-chip industries. MDSA’s predecessor firm, Beckhard Richlan & Associates, sited the buildings in an innovative sawtooth plan to generate individual entries, maximize truck loading efficiency and minimize paved surfaces while providing dynamic facades. Designed to serve multiple tenants, the building is easily adaptable and can be subdivided into “modules” of 9,000 square feet, generally 25% office space and 75% light manufacturing or warehouse space. The strongly horizontal, acid-etched, light-colored, ribbed precast concrete contrasts with the brightly colored window frames and entrances giving the project special visual appeal. The project was published in the Architectural Record and received the American Concrete Institute Honorable Mention Award (New Jersey Chapter).
