World Architecture Day 2025 celebrates this year’s theme: Design for Strength, a call to action for architecture that protects, empowers, and endures.
At MDSA, we are proud to embed resiliency, durability, or cultural sensitivity into every project we design. Architecture is not just about buildings; it’s about building strength into the communities we serve.
One powerful example is our work on the Bayside Houses Resiliency & Renewal Project for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), designed to safeguard over 6,000 residents in Far Rockaway, Queens.
This comprehensive effort includes:
- A 5,200-foot flood wall integrated into the landscape
- Passive flood panels that deploy automatically
- Elevated electrical buildings with full backup power
This project exemplifies how thoughtful design can reinforce safety, equity, and long-term resilience — especially in communities most vulnerable to climate impacts.
