MDSA created a new centre for early childhood education, housing spaces for 428 students in grades pre-K through 3rd, with flexible spatial planning.
The school building is a four-story structure of masonry and cast stone with metal panel accents and a high-efficiency curtain wall in front of double-height spaces that enhance daylighting of the interior. MDSA complied with the intent of the original prototype plans, while developing creative solutions to address difficult site conditions resulting in a reconfigured entry, play areas, and service access.
Our final solution involved more than 6,000 sqft. Of landscaped playground space protected from a busy street by an elevation change. The child drop-off area in front of the main entry is located on a quite side street.
